Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.
The Azaadi Ke Diwane museum is the latest addition to the Red Fort complex. The museum is dedicated to the unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives and fought for India’s freedom. It is a part of the Kranti Mandir series, and aims to inspire younger generations and inform them about the cost of freedom.
The museum was built by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), with the multi-sensory experiences (to engage visitors) co-created by Tagbin. It is housed in a double-storey building and is divided into 22 zones, arranged in chronological order from 1857 to 1947. The museum includes a tribute room with digital candles, more than 150 panels that include exhibits of women and child martyrs, archival data, the Andaman Jail experience, audio-visual exhibits, digital tribute kiosks, films and commentaries, and scenario-based installations. The touchscreen table dictionary compiled by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) and the National Archives of India (NAI) offers reading-room services where visitors can search for and read the stories of the martyrs who laid down their lives during India’s freedom struggle.
