The Zoology Museum or Jantu Vigyan Sangrahalaya is located in the Zoology Department of Banaras Hindu University, which was established in 1921. It is dedicated to the research community of the department and related fields of study. The museum houses an extensive collection of scientifically important zoological elements. It is unique as it has preserved and maintained a natural collection of species of living or extinct creatures. Some of the major collections are Propithecus coquerilli (sifaka), birds, starfishes or sea stars, snakes, ostrich, penguin, and other mammals.
The major concern of the museum is to display and maintain its collection for research and advanced studies in the field. The museum is located on the ground floor of the department. It comprises of two attached rooms and has an adjacent library. Prof. S.P. Rai Choudhary and Prof. A.B. Mishra are the major contributors to the museum.
