Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.
Swaraj Bhawan once belonged to Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru's father, who had bought the bungalow nearing decrepitude for a sum of Rs 19000 and turned it into a palatial residence.
Swaraj Bhawan is associated with the memories of many historical meetings and campaigns that germinated in its high-ceilinged rooms. The senior Nehru furnished the place with the choicest of furniture he came across during his visits to Europe: Persian tapestries, Venetian glassware, and many things in-between and beyond.
Today, Swaraj Bhawan serves as a museum, with scores of photographs of the Nehru family and its scions on exhibition. However, a section of the house is out-of-bounds for common visitors.
