An early work by Akbar Padamsee painted during his stay in Paris. His visits to the many museums in Paris and interactions with fellow artists are said to have inspired him to evolve a new figuration characterised by striking iconic figures.
A rare work in colour, by K.Ramanujam who was known for creating a surreal world of fantasy using his impeccable draughtsmanship and sense of design.
Radha Madhava is a small-format reproduction of a similar painting housed in the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, Baroda, and was produced in order to create lithographs at the printing press that the artist had established.
A Far Afternoon is a five panel painting specially painted for the Piramal Art Foundation, depicting subjects such as marriage parties and bandwallahs.
This painting represents an important phase from the artist’s career. It shows the gradual move from figuration to an understanding of painting as a form of meditation through colour and surface.
