Briefly describe the history of the museum, its collection and donors.
Located right next to the Government Museum, the Venkatapa Art Gallery exhibits artworks by K Venkatapa, a painter and sculptor from Karnataka, and a pioneer during his time. Born in the family of court-painters, K Venkatapa is known for his works in water-colours, which had a great sense of realism. Some of his best works are the landscape paintings of Ooty and Kodaikanal, that capture the delicate sensitivity of nature. Apart from the permanent display of K Venkatapa’s work, the gallery regularly hosts exhibitions of contemporary Indian artists.
