Divided into different galleries dedicated to separate collections, the museum exhibits an exquisite range of miniature paintings dated from the 17th to the 19th centuries, Gujarati Jaina style paintings, coinages, sculptures, beadwork from Saurashtra and Kutch for traditional house decoration, woodcrafts, and Pahari Ramayana drawings. The N C Mehta collection of this museum comprises of miniature paintings acquired from all over India. The collection is known for Pahari paintings, and the famous Chaurpanchshika series (love lyrics of a thief) written by Vilhana - an 11th century poet from Kashmir. The museum has a conservation lab where miniature paintings are regularly restored.
